Jacqueline Fernandez hails from Manama in Bahrain. She was raised within an ethnically diverse family. Her father Elroy is from Sri Lanka (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim, a Malaysian. Jacqueline is the youngest of two siblings and has one older brother. Her family was born and raised in Bahrain. Her parents had relocated to Bahrain in the 80s as a result of the turmoil within Sri Lanka. The schooling she completed was within Bahrain and she won a Scholarship for at the University of Sydney. There she graduated with the Media and Communications degree. Passionate about the languages and culture led her to join the Berlitz Language School, a school in which she mastered French and Arabic while learning Spanish. She was also crowned Miss Sri Lanka 2006 for Miss Universe 2006 on March 6th of 2006, and then was a contestant at Miss Universe 2006. Following her win of the Miss Sri Lanka title in 2006, she entered the world of TV and hosted a program about Sri Lanka's business, called Lanka Business Report. Padukone's father was a badminton player Prakash Padukone. Padukone has had a childhood in Copenhagen and Bangalore. As a teenager she competed in national championships of badminton at both the regional and international levels. She later quit the sport in order to become designer. Padukone is a native of Mangalorean roots and is fluent in Konkani as her primary language. Her family ancestors are from the town of Padukone within the Kundapura Taluk, in the Udupi district in Karnataka state of India. Prakash Padukone has retired as a world-renowned athlete in badminton, while her mother also works as a travel advisor.
